Curriculum

School programs are tailored to the language level of the students and include instruction in Bulgarian language - written and spoken literature, history and geography of Bulgaria, Bulgarian traditions and folklore.

Bulgarian Language and Literature

The purpose of this program is to support implementation and improvement of the Bulgarian language of children living in an English language environment. Because of the unique linguistic experience of every child attending the school, program content is focused on creating a positive attitude towards the Bulgarian language and culture. Main directions on acquiring spoken and written Bulgarian language are:

Language instruction

  • Formation of-speech communicative skills
  • Introduction to literary works in Bulgarian
  • Introduction to traditional Bulgarian holidays

We strive to advance the Bulgarian language skills in the form of oral communication. Each activity enriches the active vocabulary and pronunciation exercises correct the words. During the school year the focus will be on several topics associated with traditional Bulgarian holidays - Christmas, March 1, March 3, Easter, May 24.

 

History and social studies

The classes in history and social studies, carried according to Bulgarian study programs and textbooks in two age groups, are concentrated on the introducing the children to the basic geographical and historical facts and personalities. Our goal is to provoke their curiosity so that they will continue to be interested in Bulgaria. Our students grow in a multi-cultural environment, they are citizens of the world, so we constantly emphasize the links between the Bulgarian and world history and culture and instill pride, that they are Bulgarians but also awareness of unity with people around the world.

Preschool Group Program

Helping children to create and enrich their knowledge of Bulgarian language through games, songs and puppetry. The emphasis is on familiarizing kids with Bulgarian customs, traditions and culture. Especially helpful is the relationship and interaction with other children in the group allowing for faster learning.
